In their debut season, the Under-11 girls’ team took to the pitch with energy, enthusiasm, a hunger to learn, and a desire to perform dance moves and cartwheels between balls and overs. Formed for the very first time this year, our trailblazing girls played a total of 8 matches, securing 1 win, 1 tie, and 6 defeats. But the numbers only tell part of the story.
The end of season presentation was an opportunity to all come together, players, parents, coaches and reflect on what a journey it has been. It was all the sweeter as we were joined by Alan and Carol from the Rock Foundation who presented us with a cheque for £1280 so we can continue to develop and grow our fledgling girls’ section.
We were able to recognise the leading performers this season. All the girl’s deserved recognition. They have been brilliant all season and fantastic ambassadors for the club. But the winners on the night were as follows:
• Batter of the Season: Jessica H-C
• Bowler of the Season: Georgina H
• Fielder of the Season: Georgia B
• Future Star: Jennifer K
• Player’s Player of the Season: Eva C
What truly stood out was the incredible development of each player. Eight of the girls were playing cricket for the first time in their lives. From learning the basics of batting and bowling to mastering cartwheels fielding positions and teamwork. Over the season, the cartwheels became fewer, focus sharpened, and the girls showed remarkable progress with every game. Confidence grew, skills improved, and friendships flourished.
They came close in a couple of matches, losing by a single run. The tied match and their lone victory came on the bounce right at the end of the season. The victory was a testament to their resilience. Even in defeat, the team displayed courage and sports(wo)manship, qualities that will serve them well in seasons to come.
This first chapter has laid a strong foundation. With such rapid growth and determination, the future looks bright for this talented young squad. Here's to many more seasons of cricket, camaraderie, and continued success!
