On Sunday 1st June, these pioneering girls formed the first ever Rushden and Higham CC all girls team. They took on Oundle Town CC and, although the results did not go our way, they played well with visible improvements in each game. All of them were playing their first game at the under-11 age group and some had only played in one under-9 softball festival prior to the fixture.
Shout outs to Jennifer, the bowling is getting better and better. Georgina, for captaining the side and taking two wickets in one over during a spell of ferocious fast bowling. Both Ella and Ava hit some solid boundaries and Eva, for a not-out innings and some very tight bowling.
Oundle were excellent hosts, and the game was played with great spirit. The ice creams went down very well at the end. * Oundle are about three years further on than we are in terms of growing their girls’ section and the fact they were able to select two teams for this fixture is testament to that growth and something we should be aiming for.
The 2025 season is an exciting one for the club. We have been selected for an award from the Metro Bank Girls in Cricket Fund. This will help us grow the women and girls’ section via assistance and mentorship from Northamptonshire County Cricket Club.
To the wider club, speak to you sisters, aunties, mums. Get them to come down, get them involved.
Finally, to the Trailblazers, well played, keep practicing and enjoy your cricket!
Until next time…
*Note to the committee: ice creams for when we host
