It was a Sunday to remember for the Under-11s and Under-9s of Rushden & Higham Town Cricket Club as they were invited to take part in Guard of Honour duties at the County Ground for the T20 clash between Northamptonshire Steelbacks and Worcestershire Rapids.
Sadly, the women’s game was rained off, but they got to play a full part in the men’s game. Despite all the rain and waiting around, their spirit was not dampened, and they were all an absolute credit to the club.
On a sun-soaked day, full of energy and excitement, the young cricketers had the incredible opportunity to line the players' entrance, waving flags and cheering as the professional teams made their way onto the field. Dressed proudly in their club colours, the boys and girls represented Rushden & Higham with great spirit and enthusiasm.
The experience gave the youngsters a taste of the big stage and brought them up close with some of their T20 heroes. For many, it was their first visit to the County Ground — and one they’ll never forget. Autographs were hunted, burgers and chips were consumed, and merchandise was purchased!
Club coaches and parents were full of pride. Opportunities like this are fantastic for encouraging young people to continue their journey in cricket.
Rushden & Higham Town Cricket Club continues to grow its junior section, and events like this are a testament to the dedication of the volunteers, parents, and coaching staff who make such opportunities possible.
The club would like to thank Northamptonshire CCC and the Steelbacks in the Community Foundation for the invitation and for making the everyone feel so special for the next generation of cricketers.
